In 1871, William Frisbie opened a pie factory in Connecticut and university students soon started shouting "Frisbie" as they skimmed their empty pie tins to each other.
This canny pastime carried on unchanged until 1948, when, Warren Franscioni invented a platic version which flew faster and further.
After more development Warren sold his disc to the Wham-O Toy Co.and their machines started churning out frisbees (note the name change) on January 23rd 1957 and sky-high Frisbee sales have endured to this day.
