Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly
in recognition of some of the 'greats' of history. In March 1920, a British soldier, who had enlisted as a private in 1877, became a Field Marshall. Of humble Lincolnshire stock, William (Wully) Robertson, distinguished himself with his clear thinking and a gift for languages. He rose through the ranks as he soldiered throughout the Empire. World War I saw him as a friend to King George IV and an opponent of Lloyd George's policies. Vindicated by events, he reached the highest rank in his service, giving rise to the saying 'In every private's knapsack is a Field Marshall's baton' |
